Clare native Fintan McNamara has been chosen to referee Sunday's Gala All-Ireland Senior Camogie final between Cork and Tipperary.
The Banner-born CNC operator was at work in Gort in Galway when he received the phone call from Camogie headquarters.
"I was shocked when I heard the news, but it was a pleasant shock and I am greatly honoured," he said.
McNamara, who plays Intermediate hurling with the Killanena club in Clare, has been refereeing camogie games for just over sevens years, and five of those have been at inter-county level.
He took charge of both semi-finals last season and expects to have a few butterflies at Croke Park this weekend.
"I'll be somewhat nervous when I run out onto the Croke Park pitch," he said. "But I expect once the ball is throw in, the nerves will disappear."
McNamara is only the second person ever from Clare to referee an All-Ireland Senior Camogie final - Michael Hennessy was the first back in 1946.
