Union refusing to call off industrial action at passport office
The Civil Public and Services Union (CPSU) is refusing to call off industrial action at the passport office in Dublin despite being warned members' pay could be docked if they fail to carry out their core duties.
It follows a second day of chaotic scenes at the Molesworth St office yesterday which saw long queues form as people waited for their travel documents.
Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin yesterday called for a suspension of the current industrial action which has left a backlog of 40,000 passport applications.
Members of the CPSU have taken the action in protest over public service pay cuts.
