8% jump in FoI requests
There was an 8% increase in the number of Freedom of Information requests last year.
The Office of the Information Commissioner's annual report shows public bodies received more than 16,500 FOI applications in 2011, of which 10% were made by journalists.
The number of review requests to the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) decreased by 19% last year to 245.
The Information Commissioner Emily O'Reilly riased concerns about the progress on the Government's commitment to restoring the original 1997 FOI Act which was changed in 2003.
Emily O'Reilly also wants the legislation extended to cover more public bodies, including the Central Bank, NTMA, NAMA and the Garda Siochána.
