Cowell gives Fleur recording contract

X Factor runner-up Fleur East has landed her own record deal with show boss Simon Cowell.

She has signed to Syco Music – part of Sony – just days after winner Ben Haenow signed his contract with the same company.

East’s deal may not come as a huge surprise to followers of the show as the second-placed act has signed up with a Sony Music-associated label every single year of the contest.

The 27-year-old has already had an influence on the chart after her performance of Mark Ronson track Uptown Funk on the ITV contest went down so well that the original version of the song – which by that point had not been released – had to be made available weeks earlier than planned.

It went on to become a number one hit for Ronson and vocalist Bruno Mars.

East said today: “It means so much to be able to have the support and backing of such an amazing label as Syco. I’m so excited to finally have a platform to showcase my music”.

Cowell, who mentored both Haenow and her on the show, said: “Fleur proved what a star she was on the show last year and we now look forward to starting work on her record.”

East had previously been a contestant on The X Factor in 2005 as a member of the group Addictiv Ladies, but they were quickly eliminated from the show.

She will be among the acts taking part in the X Factor arena tour beginning next month.
