The Government is expected to announce a date for the upcoming abortion referendum following a meeting between the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, and the Tanaiste, Mary Harney, on Wednesday.

March 7 is the most likely date.

The referendum is expected to go ahead despite a weekend poll casting doubt on the outcome.
