An elderly French woman has been revealing the details of her unusual New Year's Eve - she spent the night in a supermarket in Roubaix, after getting locked in.

It happened after she went to use the toilet at closing time. The 73 year old didn't emerge quickly enough to catch the staff before they ran off to their own celebrations.

The woman set off the alarms several times throughout the night but there was no answer. She was found the morning of New Year's Day around 10.30 am.

Despite her ordeal, the woman did not take advantage of the situation to snatch some New Year's treats and spent the night without eating or sleeping.
