The Government has put the decentralisation of staff at the Equality Authority on hold.

The Government has put the decentralisation of staff at the Equality Authority on hold.

A controversial cut in the authority's budget is also to be independently reviewed.

Green Party leader and Environment Minister John Gormley made the announcement during his opening address to delegates at his party's national convention in Wexford last night.

He said changes made to the Equality Authority had caused deep concern and upset among the party.

The move has been welcomed by equality campaigners.
