Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has said the fact that the ESB has fired a sub-contractor at its Moneypoint station shows that poor labour standards will not be tolerated in this country.

Yesterday, it emerged that the ESB had terminated its contract with the company and that up to 200 Polish workers employed at the power station may not have been paid for as many as six weeks.

Minister Ryan said while this is bad for the workers it highlights that poor labour standards are no longer acceptable in Ireland.
