Axed Bohemians manager Stephen Kenny has expressed his disappointment at losing his job with the Gypsies.
Kenny was told his contract with Bohemians had been terminated with immediate affect after Bohs were knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Estonian side Levadia Tallinn in a 3-1 second leg home defeat on Tuesday night.
A short statement issued by Bohemians this afternoon read: “Following a meeting today with Stephen Kenny, it is with regret that Bohemian Football Club announces the termination of his contract. We wish to thanks Stephen Kenny for his services to the club over the past number of years, and wish him every success in the future.”
Bohs’ European exit comes on the back of a poor run in the eircom League which has seen them drift to also rans in the title race, 10 points behind leaders Shelbourne.
But Kenny said: “We’re third in the table and we’re into a League Cup final. Unfortunately I won’t be involved. Ultimately we didn’t do the business in Europe and the club made the decision it did.
“Nothing would shock you, but I’m bitterly disappointed.”
Taking over at Dalymount Park at the end of 2002, Kenny lifted the club out relegation trouble and took them to an FAI Cup final in his first half-season in charge.
His first full campaign saw Bohs win the Premier Division title while the Gypsies finished runners-up last time round.
