A man is fighting for his life tonight after being stabbed in Dublin city centre.

The 31-year-old is in a critical condition in hospital after the knife attack on Parnell Street.

It is understood the man was stabbed in the neck before he was rushed to the Mater Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí at Fitzgibbon Street are investigating the assault, that happened at around 3.45pm.

Detectives have appealed to the public to help track down the attacker who fled in the direction of Marlboro Street and Summerhill.

He is described as being in his late 20s and had a very tight haircut. He had a pale complexion, was clean shaven, and is believed to be approximately 6ft to 6ft 2“ in height.

He was wearing a light coloured top and white or beige coloured knee-length shorts.

A garda spokesman said a portion of the road was closed for a time but has since re-opened resulting in normal traffic movement being resumed.

“The scene on the footpath continues to be preserved,” he added.
