Pig farmers meet to discuss Dairygold factory closures

Pig farmers from throughout the country are due to meet in Co Laois today to discuss the planned closure of two Dairygold pig factories in Mitchelstown and Roscrea.

Pig farmers from throughout the country are due to meet in Co Laois today to discuss the planned closure of two Dairygold pig factories in Mitchelstown and Roscrea.

The company announced the closures earlier this week. Some 270 workers are to lose their jobs because of the move.

Pig farmers have expressed concern about how the closures will affect their livelihoods and are due to discuss ways to consolidate the industry at today’s meeting.
