A new young police officer in the North has survived an attempt on his life.

The new recruit escaped being blown up by a bomb in Co Antrim.

A device exploded as the Catholic policeman was getting into his car.

However, the detonator failed to trigger the main bomb that was attached to the man's vehicle.

It is reported that if the bomb had been detonated it would have hurt or killed other citizens who were nearby in the area.
