An Irishwoman working as a nanny in the United States has been ordered to surrender her passport after being charged in connection with the death of a baby in her care.

An Irishwoman working as a nanny in the United States has been ordered to surrender her passport after being charged in connection with the death of a baby in her care.

Aisling McCarthy Brady - who is understood to come from Cavan - pleaded not guilty at a District Court in Boston to a charge of assault and battery of the one year old girl who died last week.

According to prosecutors, the baby suffered "massive brain swelling" as a result of being assaulted on her first birthday on January 14th last, and died at the city's Children's hospital two days later.

However lawyers for the 34-year-old Irish woman say the child - named as Rehma Sabir - did not die at the hands of Aisling McCarthy Brady.

Prosecutor Katherine Folger says an autopsy outlined a number of injuries suffered by the child:
