Dance shows winning moves at Ayr

Dare To Dance gained some sort of compensation for missing Saturday’s Cambridgeshire by emerging victorious in the far less lucrative Daily Record Handicap at Ayr.

Dare To Dance gained some sort of compensation for missing Saturday’s Cambridgeshire by emerging victorious in the far less lucrative Daily Record Handicap at Ayr.

Jeremy Noseda’s three-year-old was the ante-post favourite for Saturday’s fiercely competitive £160,000 cavalry charge but was taken out of the race at the 11th hour due to concerns about the quickening ground at Newmarket.

Rerouted to Scotland three days later for a prize which would see him pick up just a shade over £6,000, Dare To Dance was sent off the 8-15 favourite and the result was scarcely in doubt.

Capably handled by champion jockey Paul Hanagan during the 10-furlong journey, the colt was urged to take the lead soon after the turn for home and he devoured the soft ground in the straight to score by three lengths from Mirrored.

Captain Scooby continued his sensational run of form by completing a hat-trick under a double penalty in the Bet With Your Mobile At victorchandler.com Handicap.

Victorious at Hamilton last Monday and again at the same track less than 24 hours prior to this event, Richard Whitaker’s 15-8 joint-favourite was taken off his feet early before staying on late under Amy Ryan to get up by a neck.

Whitaker said: “We’ve been waiting for this soft ground all year and like they say, if you wait long enough it will come to you in the end.

“I think it’s the first time any of my horses have won three in a row and he’s obviously a very tough horse.

“Amy has given him three cracking rides as he’s one of those where you have to sit and suffer for a while, but he always finishes his race off. There is a race for him at York on Saturday week and he’ll go there if the ground is right.”

Beckermet gained a deserved return to the winner’s enclosure in the Kenny Lucas 30yrs At Ayr Racecourse Handicap.

A consistent performer for Ruth Carr and a regular at this track, the 6-1 shot was always prominent in the hands of PJ McDonald and responded generously once pressure was applied to beat Ingleby Arch by three-quarters of a length.

“He’s been an excellent buy for the yard as he’s so consistent. It’s nice to see him get his head in front again,” Carr told Racing UK.

“We just keep him happy at home and turn him out. He’s had niggly problems with his feet and the farrier is treating them every other week.

“While he’s in this sort of form I wouldn’t see any reason to rough him off. He’s a star to have in the yard.”

A step up in trip helped Red Tyke (14-1) show his true colours in the Bet Live At victorchandler.com Nursery, while his jockey Tom Eaves went on to complete a double on 4-7 favourite Mistress Of Rome in the victorchandler.com Maiden Auction Stakes.

The odds-on shot was hard at work from some way out but eventually came through rivals to score by two and a half lengths.

Winning trainer Michael Dods said: “She’s deserved to win as she’s been placed on her last three runs.

“To be fair to her she’s not a six-furlong horse and we only ran her really as the ground was soft. She’s got away with it in a weak race.

“She’s come through and done it well enough in the end and we’ll step her up in trip somewhere now to either seven furlongs or a mile.”

There was a tight finish to the Best Odds Guaranteed At victorchandler.com Handicap, with Linda Perratt’s 5-1 chance Benny The Bear just edging out market leader Chookie Avon.

Perratt said: “He dug deep today and we applied the cheekpieces for the first time as we just felt he’d been giving it away a bit. Phil (Kinsella) gave him a brilliant ride to get him up.”

The closing Betfair Racing Excellence Apprentice Training Series Handicap went to Emeralds Spirit (4-1) and Justin Newman.
