EC to increase aid for Afghan refugees

The European Commission has proposed an increase in its aid programme for Afghan refugees to £30m as the United States prepares to attack Afghanistan in revenge for the attacks in New York and Washington earlier this month.

The European Commission has proposed an increase in its aid programme for Afghan refugees to £30m as the United States prepares to attack Afghanistan in revenge for the attacks in New York and Washington earlier this month.

The money will be distributed to the UN World Food Programme and the International Red Cross to buy tents, cooking gear and blankets for refugees flooding into Pakistan and Iran.

All 15 EU member states must approve the increase before the funding can be allocated.
