Police in Belfast have arrested a man in the nationalist Short Strand area in connection with recent riots in the besieged Catholic enclave.

Three houses were raided during the arrest operation, but two other suspects weren’t at home.

Police said that loyalist homes will be raided in the near future, but Sinn Féin have accused them of targeting the victims of the rioting in an attempt to portray nationalists as the aggressors.

Local councillor Joe O’Donnell said: "Clearly the PSNI are working to a political agenda."
