An Irish MEP is warning people travelling within Europe to expect far tighter security checks from now on.
Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness has defended the clampdown on free movement because it is in the interests of safety.
She has been speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg where the Paris terror attacks and lockdown in Belgium are topping the agenda.
The army remains on the streets of Brussels today and schools and the underground system are still shut.
However, McGuinness feels we need to accept security changes.
“We are much conscious of security now,” said Mairead McGuinness.
“While we reject all of these things (extra security checks) because it stops us doing want we want to do, I think we are all more conscious that we have to go with this now.”
