Limerick make three changes for qualifier

Brian Geary, Wayne McNamara and Donie Ryan have been added to the Limerick team for Saturday's All-Ireland SHC qualifier against Offaly at the Gaelic Grounds (throw-in 7pm).

Brian Geary, Wayne McNamara and Donie Ryan have been added to the Limerick team for Saturday's All-Ireland SHC qualifier against Offaly at the Gaelic Grounds (throw-in 7pm).

Geary, who was in inspirational form during last year's championship, will make his long-awaited return at centre-back.

It will be his first competitive appearance for the Shannonsiders since last year's All-Ireland final.

The Monaleen clubman sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury last October during a club football match but he is fit enough to take the number 6 jersey from Paudie O'Dwyer for this weekend's tie.

Limerick boss Richie Bennis has made two other changes to the side he put out for the Munster semi-final defeat to Clare.

Wayne McNamara is introduced in midfield, with Mike O'Brien moving into the half-forward line. Mike Fitzgerald is the player to lose his place.

Donie Ryan has earned a corner forward berth, replacing Donnacha Sheehan, the player he came on for as a substitute in the Clare game.

Limerick will also line out with a rejigged defence with Seamus Hickey now positioned at left corner back and Mark O'Riordan on the right wing.

Saturday's game will only be the fourth ever championship meeting between Limerick and Offaly.

The counties last clashed in 2006 when Limerick won a qualifier tie by ten points (2-29 to 2-19).

They also met in the 2003 qualifiers with Offaly winning by 1-18 to 0-14.
