A 64-year-old motorist was killed tonight and his female passenger injured in a car crash in Co Mayo.

A 64-year-old motorist was killed tonight and his female passenger injured in a car crash in Co Mayo.

Gardaí are investigating the single vehicle collision which happened shortly before 6pm at Newpark, Swinford, when a car travelling towards Swinford left the road.

“The 64-year-old male driver of the car was fatally injured while a female passenger received minor injuries,” said a garda spokesman.

“Both were taken to Castlebar Hospital.”
