No certainty yet on new Children's Hospital, says Health Minister

Health Minister Dr James Reilly said today that he understands that people want some certainty about the future of the National Children's Hospital project.

Health Minister Dr James Reilly said today that he understands that people want some certainty about the future of the National Children's Hospital project.

A review group is being established to advise the Government after a planning application for the Mater site in Dublin was turned down by An Bord Pleanála.

Minister Reilly said that he cannot guarantee that any work will get underway on the project this year.

"I know what people want is certainty, I know what parents in particular want for their children is certainty," he said.

"I'm very cognisant of the fact that fundraising is going on in Crumlin and that they want to upgrade their cardiac and their cancer wards and I want to make sure that that money isn't spent unwisely if we're proceeding with this quickly.

"But neither do I want in any way to block what they are doing or in any way discourage them from what they are doing if it transpires that this project is delayed."
