Noonan: No tax on text messages
Finance Minister Michael Noonan has ruled out the idea of a tax on text messages, which was first proposed by Labour two years ago.
They suggested putting a 1 cent tax on each of the estimated 25 million text messages sent every day across the country.
However, the Finance Minister believes there is no way of knowing how much the tax would earn for the State.
Michael Noonan said he is not aware of a similar tax anywhere else, and he has no plans to introduce it.
