Cabinet still split over education row

The education row which threatens to split the cabinet has re-surfaced.

The education row which threatens to split the cabinet has re-surfaced.

The Minister for Education Noel Dempsey is refusing to rule out the re-introduction of college fees.

Tanaiste Mary Harney has once again made it clear that it is Progressive Democrat policy that these fees will not be implemented.

Dempsey says a review of spending in his Department is currently being carried out and no decisions will be made until the report has been completed and presented to cabinet.

He says a final decision has yet to be made: “I am ruling nothing in or nothing out. I am saying that a review is taking place and when the review is complete I will make my recommendations.”
