The Public Health Alliances, north and south, have called on the Irish and British governments to lead the way in addressing Ireland’s health inequalities.
The call was made as a major all-Ireland two-day conference gets underway in Maynooth to agree action on health inequalities.
The conference, hosted by the Public Health Alliance Ireland (PHAI) and the Northern Ireland Public Health Alliance (NIPHA), is entitled “Creating Connections – health inequalities on the island of Ireland – an agenda for change”.
Speakers include Mary Robinson, Donald Acheson, author of the influential UK report on Inequalities in Health and former chief medical officer for England, Professor Labonte, Canada Research Chair in Global Health Equity, Charles Secrett, Co-Director, Active Citizens Transform and other representatives from various sectors.
The Public Health Alliance Ireland (PHAI) developed from a series of seminars where a wide range of people expressed interest in forming a unified voice to advocate for improved health services and a reduction in health inequalities.
The Northern Ireland Public Health Alliance (NI PHA) is a voluntary, independent membership organisation.
