The One in Four group for survivors of sexual abuse has reported a significant rise in the levels of service it provided last year.
The group’s 2004 annual report is being launched this morning, and reveals a 61% increase in the number of psychotherapy sessions, while its website recorded 3.4 million hits last year.
One in Four was instrumental in bringing about the investigation into clerical sex abuse in the Diocese of Ferms.
Director of the group Colm O'Gorman said that the only reason for looking at “past hurts” was to understand the implications it had today on those who had been affected by abuse, and to look at current practice.
He added that there is a responsibility to ensure that "this kind of abuse will not affect our children and our children’s children", and said that mechanisms must be put in place immediately to ensure that this does not happen again.
