Former Hollywood hellraiser Lindsay Lohan has praised Robert Downey Jr for conquering his drink and drugs demons.

The Mean Girls actress admires Downey Jr for recovering from his hard times - and thinks that his experiences have helped him attain the Hollywood status he has today.

She tells US magazine Marie Claire: "He's an amazing actor. Look at people like that who have gone through (stuff) and had to work that much harder to get to where they are now."

And, referring to her own troubled past, which has seen her arrested over a DUI (driving under the influence) offence, Lohan add: "I've learned. I'll never go back. And it's not a never-say-never type thing - it's just, I know. I know."
