Enda Kenny was out bright and early this morning to cast his vote in the election.

The Taoiseach travelled to his hometown of Castlebar, Co Mayo, along with his wife Fionnula to vote.

Also out and about, exercising their civic right was Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin along with his wife Mary and his son Aoidh and daughter Aoibhe who were voting for the first time.

The family voted at St Anthony’s School, Ballinlough, Cork.

Joan Burton also voted this morning and the Labour Twitter account tweeted this picture of the momentous occasion.
