Bertie backs the blues for Sam Maguire

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern says Sam Maguire will be coming home to Dublin on Sunday.

The man, who was at the helm in Government when Ireland's economy collapsed, says the boys in blue are well placed to beat Mayo in the All-Ireland Final and bring the silverware back to the capital.

Speaking to Newstalk radio, Bertie said it would be nice for Mayo to win on Sunday but, only if they weren't playing against Dublin.

"I wish them well in the minor match, because I don't care," he chuckled. "I hope they've a great day out."

"If Dublin lose, you have to turn around and say : listen, these guys have been coming up here for 60 years, they've been in half a dozen finals, they're a great footballing county."

"But I'd rather they win their first All-Ireland in 62 years when it's not Dublin in the final."

Mayo haven't lifted the cup since 1951.
