Ernie Els was the biggest mover as the players returned to the course for the delayed second round of the Valero Texas Open which was held over from Friday because of heavy rain and a tornado warning.
Australian Matt Jones had carded a course-record six-under-par 66 to take a one-shot lead from American Paul Stankowski on the opening day and today Els hit a 67 to add to his 72 to lie two shots off the lead.
That was held jointly by Americans Brett Wetterich and Jimmy Walker who hit 68 and 67 respectively today.
Tied third were American Charley Hoffman and South African Garth Mulroy and Els was in a five-way tie for sixth.
Els’ round of five under par, with five birdies today, moved him 30 places up the leaderboard.
