Harry Redknapp has warned Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric that he will not accept uninvited intervention from new executive director Velimir Zajec in team affairs and transfer dealings.
The former West Ham boss has been given assurances by Mandaric that there will be no blurred lines between his job and Zajec’s new role.
That has served to restore a sense of peace for now, but Redknapp has revealed how he felt “unwanted” by Pompey and contemplating his future when it emerged that Zajec was to be appointed.
Redknapp told the Daily Mirror: “If you are not wanted somewhere then you move on – that is the nature of the game.
“I have felt unwanted over the last week or so and I would be a liar if I said otherwise. I thought I was being manipulated out.”
The meeting with Mandaric has served to restore calm at the club, with Redknapp revealing: “He promised me my role would not change and I hope that is genuine.
“I buy the players and I pick the team and if someone else comes in and starts trying to get involved in those things there will be some aggravation.
“You can only believe what people tell you and I do not want to walk away. I love it here.”
Redknapp has established Portsmouth in the Premiership, having led them to promotion, and although his squad is currently beset by injuries to key men they remain in mid-table.
Tomorrow they face Manchester City at Fratton Park, and Redknapp insisted yesterday that it would be business as usual on his part until he sees any change in the dynamics of the south-coast club.
Should there be any change which prompts Redknapp to depart, the 57-year-old insists he would look for another job in football.
He added: “If I do leave I am not going to retire because I still feel I have got a lot to offer and my record proves that.”
