SF's McLaughlin optimistic after Trimble speech

The Sinn Féin chairman, Mitchel McLaughlin, has been responding to David Trimble's leadership speech in Armagh today.

The Sinn Féin chairman, Mitchel McLaughlin, has been responding to David Trimble's leadership speech in Armagh today.

He said it appears that Mr Trimble has tried to give republicans room to manoeuvre and for that he was grateful.

Mr McLaughlin also agreed that the North could be on the brink of a significant leap forward and that given the political will and collective approach, the legacy of many years of conflict could be dealt with quickly.
