An 11th person has died after a tree crashed on to spectators at a concert in France.

A storm brought down the tree on to a tent where spectators at a Yiddish music concert were sheltering.

The accident in the suburbs of Strasbourg has left 85 other people injured, 17 of them seriously.

Six women and four men, all around the age of 18, were killed immediately. An 11th person among the seriously injured died later.

"People are calling us frantically," said Michel Lafond, an official at the crisis centre hastily set up in the city. "They are searching for their friends, their family members."

About 120 people were watching the performance on benches when violent winds forced organisers to interrupt the show and ask spectators to take refuge under the tent.
