Woman charged with killing husband in Cork
A 35-year-old woman was arrested today and charged with the unlawful killing of her husband in Cork on New Year’s Eve.
Dilorom Sulaymanov, 35, was arrested at Cork District Court at 10.10am this morning by Detective Sergeant Declan O’Sullivan.
She was charged with the manslaughter of her husband, Abduazim Sulaymanov, aged 39, at 7 Pinewood, Ballinlough Road, Cork, on December 31 2006.
Detective Sergeant O’Sullivan cautioned her that she did not have to say anything but that any reply would be taken down in writing and could be given in evidence.
The accused replied: "I did it because I was protecting my children, my mother and because of continuous beatings. I was in shock when I did it."
Inspector Gerard O’Mahony applied for an adjournment of the case until June 13 for preparation and service of a book of evidence.
Uinsin MacGruairc remanded her on bail to appear in court again on that date.
The Uzbek woman was required to surrender her passport and not apply for another one, as a term of her bail.
She also had to lodge cash of €2,000 and agree to sign on three times a week at her local garda station.
Solicitor, Eddie Burke, was appointed on free legal aid to represent her.
The defendant was previously charged with the offence of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Abduazim Sulaymanov, 39, contrary to Section 4 of the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
The alleged circumstances were that the victim was injured on New Year’s Eve and died a week later.
