Plea to mother of baby found dead in B&B

Gardaí tonight appealed for the mother of a baby found dead in a bed and breakfast to come forward.

Gardaí tonight appealed for the mother of a baby found dead in a bed and breakfast to come forward.

The discovery was made in a room of a B&B on Gardiner Street on the northside of Dublin this afternoon.

A post-mortem examination was carried out and gardaí said it revealed the mother had suffered a miscarriage.

They appealed for the mother to come forward in order to receive urgent medical attention.

In a statement the garda press office said officers were concerned only for the mother’s welfare.

“We are satisfied that this was a natural miscarriage and there is no criminal aspect to this investigation whatsoever,” gardaí said.

“Any contact made by the mother or any information received will be dealt with with the utmost of sensitivity.”

Gardaí at Store Street asked the mother to contact them.

And they also said if the mother did not wish to speak to officers, she should seek medical care wherever possible.

It is believed the mother miscarried sometime in the 24-hour period between noon yesterday and noon today.

A garda spokesman added: “The mother’s well-being is our sole priority and we are anxious that she receive medical assistance.”
