Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh has published a contingency plan in the event of any future outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Ireland.

Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh has published a contingency plan in the event of any future outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Ireland.

Ireland had one confirmed case of the disease during the outbreak in Britain in 2001 which brought much of the European agriculture industry to its knees.

A report at the time found that Ireland could have lost 12,000 jobs as a result of the outbreak had it not been contained as efficiently as it was.
