Israel says it has arrested a number of suspected militants during a two-hour military operation in the Palestinian city of Nablus.

Troops took up positions in the city this morning. At the height of the operation a local refugee camp was surrounded while house to house searches were conducted.

An attack helicopter circled overhead during the searches.

At one stage a Palestinian was shot in the leg during an exchange of fire.

The operation follows a number of attacks on Israelis in the area, including the shooting dead of a 78-year-old woman yesterday.
