Breandan MacCionnaith, the chairman of the Garvaghy Road Residents Committee, has accused the British Government of politicising the loyalist marching season by establishing a review of the Parades Commission.
With just 18 days to go to this year’s Drumcree parade in Portadown, Co Armagh, Mr MacCionnaith said the review was designed to bring about the demise of the commission.
"People are very suspicious of this review given the political context in which it came about," he said.
"It is clearly a concession to David Trimble and the [Ulster] Unionist Party and we still have to see any evidence that would support the view that this review is aimed at trying to resolve the issue. We think it’s aimed at putting it back into the whole political field again."
