Irish aid agency GOAL has urged the United Nations and governments throughout the world not to allow the war in Iraq to distract attention from humanitarian disasters elsewhere in the world.

GOAL, which works in more than 20 countries other than Iraq, has reminded global authorities that several African countries are still on the brink of famine, while the AIDS crisis continues unabated in sub-Saharan Africa.

It has called on the world's aid donors not to divert funding for the Iraqi humanitarian situation from relief projects in other areas.
