The Irish Hospital Consultants Associations annual conference is taking place today in Limerick.

Items on the agenda include how the IHCA hopes to maintain a quality healthcare service during the economic downturn.

The consultants will also discuss the role of small and local hospitals in the future in the wake of the closure of many small hospital units around the country.
