The North is today hosting Britain’s fourth annual memorial for the victims of the Holocaust.

The North is today hosting Britain’s fourth annual memorial for the victims of the Holocaust.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend events throughout Belfast to mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

An ecumenical, multi-faith commemoration will be held this evening at the city’s new Waterfront Hall.

Nobel prize winner Seamus Heaney will read a poem by Bertolt Brecht before the audience is asked to participate in solemn moment of reflection.

This year is also the 10th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda and the theme of today’s memorial is "lessons learned, lessons still to learn".
