A pipe bomb has been thrown at a house in Newry, Co Down.

The explosion happened outside a home in the Patrician Park area just before 9.30pm last night.

No one was injured, but the front of the house, and a car parked outside, were both damaged in the attack.

It is not yet clear why the home, said to be in a quiet, residential area, was targeted.

Local SDLP MLA Dominic Bradley said those behind the attack have no consideration for residents.

"Someone could have been injured, someone could have been killed –there's absolutely no justification for this," he said.

"I hope that anyone who has any information about what happened will bring that to the police as soon as possible."
