Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a device found in a van outside Laganside Courthouse in Belfast city centre last night.

Three masked men apparently forced the owner of the van to drive it from his home in north Belfast to the city centre.

Police said the vehicle contained a viable explosive device that had the potential to kill or maim.

It is unclear whether any group claimed responsibility for the bomb, but the finger of blame will almost certainly point towards dissident republicans who have carried a number of bomb attacks in recent months.
