Watford have completed the signing of defender Danny Shittu from QPR for an initial fee of £1.6m (€2.37m) which could rise to £3m (€4.44m).
The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the Premiership newcomers and could make his Hornets debut in Tuesday’s high-profile friendly against Inter Milan.
Shittu, who made more than 200 appearances for the west London side, had been the subject of a £1.5m (€2.22m) bid from Coca-Cola Championship team West Brom earlier in the week before Watford’s offer was accepted.
Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd was thrilled to have finally landed his man after pursuing the defender for some time.
“In Danny we are signing another player who fits the Watford way – hungry to learn and eager to prove his worth at the very, very top level against the best.
“He is somebody we have been chasing for some time and I’m pleased he will now have the chance to fight for a place along with the other excellent centre-halves we have at the club.
