Suspicious device  found in Dundalk

Update at 9.30pm

A hand grenade has been made safe by the Army Bomb Disposal unit in Louth.

The EOD squad were called to the O'Hanlon Park area of Dundalk at 7pm this evening, following a request from Gardai.

The device, which was discovered on an area of wastelend, was made safe at the scene and taken to a secure military location to be destroyed by controlled explosion.

The army bomb disposal unit are at the scene of a suspicious device in Dundalk.

The unit were called to the area of Fr Murray Park this afternoon after a suspect discovery was made in an open area.

Members of the disposal unit are still at the scene.
