The Catholic Church's Crosscare agency has expressed concern at the effect that rising oil prices is having on poor families in Dublin.

The agency, which is attached to the Dublin diocese, said it was concerned that hundreds of families would not be able to heat their homes this winter because of high prices.

It said the price of home-heating oil was increasing on a weekly basis, while gas prices were due to increase by 25% in two weeks' time and ESB charges were due to go up in January.
