SIPTU to meet WHB over planned lay-offs

SIPTU and the Western Health Board are due to hold talks today over the board’s plans to lay off 169 workers as part of a round of Government cutbacks.

SIPTU and the Western Health Board are due to hold talks today over the board’s plans to lay off 169 workers as part of a round of Government cutbacks.

The union has called on the board to reverse its decision and is due to begin a work-to-rule on Monday in protest at the move.

In today’s meeting, SIPTU is expected to ask the WHB for information on property portfolios, professional fees and expenses paid to board members and the executive.

It said the board should not proceed with the job cuts until a review of these budgetary issues takes place.

IMPACT has already expressed strong opposition to the lay-offs and has instructed its members not to cover work done by employees who lose their jobs because of the cutbacks.
