A cross border inquiry into alleged abuse by IRA members could be on the cards.

It follows weekend reports that the names of suspects against whom claims have been made have been supplied to Gardaí.

A spokesman for the Government has told the Irish Times that the issue is expected to be discussed at next week's North South Ministerial Council.
