Princess Margaret has suffered another minor stroke, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The Queen's younger sister was taken ill on Tuesday afternoon at Kensington Palace.

She has remained at the palace where she is receiving nursing care, said a spokeswoman.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: "Princess Margaret suffered a further minor stroke early on Tuesday afternoon.

"It will be some while before the extent of her recovery can be determined.

"Her Royal Highness is remaining at Kensington Palace where nursing care is being provided.

"The Queen is being kept closely informed and the Princess's family have visited her."

Princess Margaret, 70, suffered a suspected stroke just before Christmas at Sandringham, the Queen's Norfolk estate. She was treated at the private King Edward VII hospital in London after experiencing a severe loss of appetite.

In 1998 she suffered her first stroke on the island of Mustique.

A year later, Princess Margaret, who normally lives at Kensington Palace, suffered serious burns to her legs and feet in an accident while on holiday on the Caribbean island. Princess Margaret is said to have given up smoking after a part of her lung was removed in 1985.

It is understood the Princess has been visited by her children, Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Chatto, during her recovery this week.
