A 19-year-old man has died following a road collision in county Cork yesterday.

A 19-year-old man has died following a road collision in county Cork yesterday.

The two-car crash happened on the Refinery Road at Corkbeg in Whitegate just after 6.30pm.

The 19-year-old driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

The driver of the second car, who is a 21-year-old man, was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

There were no passengers in either car.

The road is currently closed while gardaí carry out a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact Midleton garda station.
