FÁS has predicted Ireland's labour force will swell to two million by the end of this year, mainly due to increased participation from women and immigrants.

Reports this morning said the jobs agency's latest quarterly commentary reveals that just over half of females aged over 15 are now at work or seeking employment.

This follows a significant rise in the number of women in the 20-24 and 45-54 age groups seeking jobs during 2004.

Overall, FÁS found the number of jobs in Ireland rose by more than 65,000 last year, the largest increase in four years.
