A man accused of murdering a taxi driver was remanded in custody for fortnight today at Cork District Court.

Lloyd Buckley (aged 37) was remanded in custody on the charge of murdering a taxi driver whose body was found at his flat in Cork City last week.

Lloyd Buckley was charged at the weekend with the murder of 62-year-old Michael Healy at Rocksprings Terrace, St Luke's Cross in Cork on a date between September 18 and September 23.

Buckley, also with an address at Rocksprings Terrace, was not required to speak during today’s hearing.

Judge Con O’Leary remanded Buckley in custody until October 14, on the application of Inspector Mary King.

The inspector said time was required for preparation of a book of evidence.

There was no objection to the adjournment application from defence solicitor, Frank Buttimer.

Det Sgt Michael Hogan of Watercourse Road garda station charged Buckley outside Mayfield garda station, last Saturday and the defendant made no reply to the charge.

The deceased, Mr Healy, was a self-employed taxi driver, formerly of Lagan Grove, Mayfield, and a native of Grenagh in North Cork.

He had been living at the upstairs flat at Rocksprings Tce at St Luke’s Cross for about 10 years.
